Mold-resistant silicone sealant (often called sanitary sealant) is commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens and typically contains anti-fungal additives to help reduce mold growth.
General-purpose silicone sealant may not include the same additives, so it can be more likely to discolor or show mold in constantly wet, poorly ventilated joints.
Even with mold-resistant sealant, proper surface cleaning, correct joint design, and good ventilation are important. No sealant can guarantee a joint will never mold.
For selection and application conditions, follow the product TDS and the requirements of your project or market.
